I’m currently working on my first book ever & first series, The Consultants. This series came about after I met some of the people who were part of the subject company. Some of the material I uncovered is the core of this series. Ever the one to like pain and confusion, I started a second book series over the Thanksgiving holiday 2015 called The Cole Austin Series.
The Consultants is about a media-shy consulting firm called Vanilla Consultants. Vanilla keeps a very private profile to the public but many companies know them and love them. This firm provides temporary employees, contract employees and long-term consultants to help companies in all fields. They specialize in finance, computer science and research based positions – basically providing any service your company needs… especially corporate espionage.
Most of the consultants that work for them don’t know that they’re part of a major spy ring and the data they provide in their weekly reports to the company is actually bundled and sold to various competing companies and governments. The consultants only know that they are handsomely rewarded when they provide as much detail as possible about their work (it’s a type of conditioned response that Vanilla has programmed into each of them). Two of the consultants (Mark and Scott) are assigned to a project at a “Big Data” firm where they begin to connect the dots and expose the conspiracy of some of the largest corporations in the world.
The first book (The Dream Job) in the series was written over September and October 2015. The second book (working title: Land of Entrapment) will be the focus novel for NaNoWriMo for November 2015.
The Cole Austin Series:
Here’s a quick blurb I did for the series:
On Feb. 4, 1974 Patty Hearst was kidnapped by a group known as the SLA (Symbionese Liberation Army). Over the course of the next 5 weeks Hearst was forced to join this group in one of the most publicized cases of Stockholm Syndrome. On April 15 Patty was photographed wielding an M1 Carbine semi-automatic rifle while robbing the Hibernia Bank. She was eventually convicted of bank robbery!
What is not well known, was that the SLA borrowed the idea for a kidnapping/robbery from an event that occurred earlier that same year.
Cole Austin was an up and coming racer on the NASCAR circuit when he was kidnapped, with his girlfriend, to be a getaway driver in a series of bank robberies that spanned nearly 2 months.
The bank robbers were killed, the money was never found and it was never known if Cole was really held against his will during the ordeal.
This series tells Cole’s story as told to the author, RE Benjamin, 40 years later.
